- Hats have been an important part of history and follow many parallels to architecture. Sometimes practical to protect from the elements, and sometimes societal to indicate authority, fashion, and religious values, for example, hats are essentially architecture for the head. I have had an interest in millinery for many years, and fortuitously found a most engaging milliner an historian to apprentice with.
This hat represents the joy of life-long learning and the surprise and magic of a classic Alice in Wonderland life experience. Weeks of technical instruction peppered with philosophy and history are all wrapped up in this tidy accessory. As my teacher suggested, if we all wore hats more we might be kinder to each other and become a better society. For the record, I believe she is right.
